Stata (Statistics/Data Analysis) is a statistical program created in 1985 by Statacorp that is used by many businesses and academic institutions around the world. Most of its users work in research, especially in the fields of economics, sociology, political science, and epidemiology.

Stata's full range of capabilities includes:

-Custom programming

Stata has become increasingly popular over the years. Its simplicity in design and usage of drop-down menus means that people have found it easier to use compared to many other statistical software packages (e.g. SAS). Much of Stata's power comes from user-developed add-on routines which can be loaded off the web with a single command. In this respect Stata is a community developed package.
